Top Ten Toughest Edurance Races. I really want to do the the Inca Trail Marathon.

Though it measures barely an ultramarathon, the Inca Trail through the Peruvian Andes to Machu Picchu is a helluva endurance challenge, if only for the outrageous trail conditions and mystical historical payoff. Be prepared to step carefully over the dizzying, 27.5-mile route, which includes thousands of stair steps–some smooth, but most sharp, cracked, angled, precipitous and/or perilous. With necessary environmental and tourism restrictions hindering access to the trail, this is not an easy race to plan. One outfit that does it annually is Andes Adventures, a Santa Monica, Calif.-based tour operator that offers a ten-day site-seeing/marathon package each June, which attracts runners from all over the world. As you sweat your way over 13,776-foot Dead Woman Pass, just remember it could be worse–the nimble Peruvian porters regularly scamper the trail shod only in sandals and with 40-plus-pound tourist packs on their backs.
