Scott Dunlap’s A Trail Runners Blog has a good interview with William Emerson, a legendary trail runner from the Pacific North West. I have had the chance to compete against him on 2 occasions once during the Kneeknacker and once during the Stormy. He is a very nice guy and a fierce competitor. He has a very different approach than me in the ultra races, I try to maintain a consistent pace through the race were as he has a very gradual build up. I will never forget the feeling during the Stormy where he ran with me for a bit made a little small talk and then dropped me like I was standing still on the ‘Rock and Roll’ section of the course after that I never saw him again until the finish. Anyways check out the interview it is worth a read if interested in how someone can run 18+ Ultras in a year, and win almost all of them. I ran 2 last year and that took alot out of me!
