Kneeknacker Training Week 6 (May 29-June 4)

June 4th, 2006 · No Comments

This was a recovery week from the Iron Knee but I still had one of my highest “hours of training” this week.

Mon: Bike 1:10
Tues: Bike 1:15 / Run 45:00
Wed: Bike 1:25 / Run 54:00
Thu: Bike 1:25 / Run 50:00
Fri: Bike 1:25 / Run 35:00
Sat: 3:30 XC Mountain Bike ride with Cody. We went up to Squamish and rode part of the Test of Metal course. We were suppossed to ride with Steve who is doing the Test of Metal race but we eneded up losing him and he had to ride with Tara and Kim. We managed to hit the tougher sections Starting Hill, 9 mile, Lava and also the brutally crappy Plunge and Rip which I hate.
Cody Quotes:
“I worry all week, I shouldn’t have to worry now” (as we rode down the Rip)
“Why can’t I just go in a f–king straight line” (trying to ride up Lava flow)
“You think this is fun and snowboarding isn’t? Your f–cked”. (As he rides down the rip(**I do not think that type of XC is fun either))

Sun: My longest training run ever! 4:57 with the Kneeknacker training run group.
Grouse to Old Buck, I went off course adding a couple more km’s. This run was hard because all I had for fuel was 2 gels and a cliff bar, so I did the entire run on around 500 calories. Taking in mind you can burn 1000 cals/hr while running… I was starting to bonk near the end. I litterally think the race is easier than that run because I fuel every 30-40 minutes. Doing a harsh run like this after a full week of training and going to a party the night before equals very, very tough times (another runner said this was a “character building run”, I agree). Looking back in my training log my longest training run was only 3:48 in prep for the 2004 Kneeknacker! and the race went quite well. Will see how this works.

Total Hours of training this week 17:40!!
