Well it’s a New Year so that means time for some resolutions. Here are mine for 2007:
1) The classic lose weight. I gained a fair amount of weight during my lay off from running due to injury. I am now sitting at 165 which is 15 pounds over my ideal running/racing weight. Some people say but hey you are still skinny well not really for someone with my height of 6ft you should weigh around 150 if you do not want to torture yourself and preform decently.
2) Try not to get injured. I did many stupid things in 2006, building the mileage to quickly and running through injuries which led to a serious stress fracture. This year I will listen to the body and not try to push through the pain and injuries.
3) Focus on shorter races. Nothing over 25k until the fall where I might try to run a marathon if and only if I have at least 6 months of solid training and racing under my belt.
4) Do more cross training. I have been on a roll with this for at least 2 months and I have to keep it up. I feel stronger already but it’s easy to let this slide especially during the summer.
5) Shoot for PB’s in the 5k, 10k and 1/2 Marathon as well as some of the local mountain runs like the Seek the Peak and the Grouse Mountain Run.
6) Do at least one backpacking trip. I did a couple last year when I was injured and I really enjoyed them. Plus they are great training! Hauling a 50 pound pack up a mountain is not easy.
7) Eat healthier. I have to lay off the snacks at work. Cut down on the coffee and beers and eat more fresh foods.
